A man’s fear of violence isn’t a bad thing in and of itself, according to former NFL star and current ABC News contributor, Michael Vick.
And now Vick, who has been working with the NFL on his “How To Stay Safe” book, tells PEOPLE that he knows many people who are afraid to go to a game because of the threat of violence.
He says people who play violent video games should feel free to have fun, and that there’s a huge difference between being afraid of violence and being afraid to play a video game.
“I think that people need to take the time to realize that violence is something that is going to be in a game for the rest of their lives and there’s nothing that they can do about it,” Vick said.
“The only thing that they have to do is get their kids to learn about it and to know about it, because violence is the last thing you want to be doing.”
Vick, who also played for the San Francisco 49ers, was the NFL’s most productive pass rusher in 2011 and 2012.
He was named to the Pro Bowl in each of those seasons.
The former NFL wide receiver and defensive end also knows how to be respectful of the game, which is something he says a lot of players fail to do.
“There’s a lot people who want to take a knee or sit down and yell at players or whatever,” Vick told PEOPLE.
“But the reality is that that’s not the way to be.
If you don’t know how to deal with the game and how to respect the game like that, you’re not going to win.”
Vicks new book, which he’s co-writing with former teammate, Will Young, is set to be released in February.
