A decade ago, childwwear was still an expensive and highly sought-after fashion item for fashion-conscious parents and kids, and many kids could only afford to buy into the trend for a limited time.
But over the past decade, childwear has gained more popularity among consumers, and is now the top fashion category for kids under the age of 12.
The trend has also led to a significant shift in the clothing industry, which has seen brands like Calvin Klein, J. Crew, and Gucci shift their focus from children’s clothing to adults’ clothing.
In this installment of our coverage of children’s fashion trends, we spoke to the head of the global adult fashion industry, Tyler Duster, who told us that the current fashion trends in children’s apparel are “really cool,” adding, “the trend for children is really growing.”
Duster, a former fashion designer and founder of the clothing company L’Oreal, told us, “There is definitely an increase in interest in children, and that has been true for a long time.”
But what about the kids themselves?
How do kids actually look in clothing?
“It’s all about the look, and I think the kids look great in it,” Duster said.
“Kids have always wanted to wear clothes for a reason, and we see that in everything from baby shoes to baby sweaters.”
“It’s really cool to see the rise of children and the trend toward clothing that kids are really interested in, and they want to wear it,” he added.
“They want to feel connected to the brands and the brands want to be a part of that.”
In this edition of our Childwear and Kids coverage, we’ll explore the trends, products, and trends of childwear.
